A. A Satellite is A GeoStationary Body revolving alongwith our Earth at same speed i.e 24 Hrs per Day. An Operator in a Weather Station can control the Movement of Satellite and focus it on desired location. For India if there is a disaster such as Floods, Cyclones, Hurricanes etc in Mumbai or Chennai then INSAT 2,3, 4 and S Type 108 Satellites can be launched and activated to focus on Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi and Bangalore Cities. News Channels and Radio Broadcasters such as BBC, CNN are connected to 24 HRS Online Satellites for their supply fo News, Information and Important Databases.

What is the difference between a disaster and a catastrophe?
Q. What is the difference between a disaster and a catastrophe? im not quite sure if its A or B, im rally considering A, because they are two words that mean kainda the same thing, but catastrophe is more more like omg ahh thats crazy.. lol more serious dengrous. A. They are two words that mean essentially the same thing B. A community recovers from a disaster within a few years. If the system is so badly damaged that recovery efforts stall, affecting the way of life in the community for decades or even permanently, then it becomes a catastrophe.

What disaster is equilivent to a nuclear bomb?
Q. What type of natural disaster of equal to that of a hydrogen bomb? Equal as in most destructive to a specific location, and most fatal to population. 10.0 Earthquake? F5 Tornado? 10 Degrees of latitude Hurricane? Volcanic Eruption? Mega Tsunami? Meteor?
Asked by Aaron - Fri Jul 11 05:04:49 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They all could be equivalant. Its just a matter of where the disater hits as to how much damage it produces. An F5 tornado took a whole town off the map (Greensburg KS May 4, 2007). It literally leveled everything, and it looked like a hydrogen bomb went off only there was no crater. A meteor though would probably wipe out half the world, with the after effects it would have on the world (Mega tusnamis, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the insuing ice age that could follow) would be comparabe to thousnads of H bombs going off at once

What are the practical ways we can do to prepare ourselves for any disaster here in the Philippines?
Q. As the damage wrought by the typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng have shown, Disaster preparedness (I say preparedness because NO ONE can stop a natural calamity from occuring except God) is as important as Disaster response. A. There are three stages to minimize loss of life and property during a disaster: Before, During and After Before: --People should have discipline with their actions because it does affect calamities one way or the other --- deforestation causes more flooding to occur, blocked drainage systems aggravate floods -- People should always be ready for disasters, you'll never know when it strikes. Always have a ready supply of canned goods, flashlights and battery operated radio. Do not wait for predictions/forecasts by various agencies. You can never depend on them, and it's always better to be prepared than sorry. --Be Observant of Your Surroundings, Read up! In a disaster response zone, which profession is needed the most?
Q. I am close to graduating this year. My undergraduate degree is in biomedical science. I really want to travel to disaster response zones and be part of the relief efforts (not in terms of finances). Which profession should I choose considering my marks are perfect and I have full motivation to take on any profession to meet this goal? I would really like to be NEEDED in those areas, I really don't want to compete with other people with my profession who are also willing to go down there?

A. in a disaster situation there is NO competition, all are needed. Doctors, nurses, paramedics, infrastructure engineers, police, all are needed. Haven't you been hearing about the disaster in Haiti? There is deperate need for all the professions and supplies. No one is competing with anyone, all are working toward the common goal of helping those beknighted people.

For example a given high magnitude earthquake say of +7 intensity would bring mare loss and causalities in India than it would in Japan thnks

Q. This morning I was cooking a pot roast in my crock pot. I tried to move the crock pot from the counter to the stove top, but the cord got hung up on the coffee percolator. The crock pot slipped out of my hands and landed upside down in the garbage can that was almost full, and the coffee pecolator tipped over and spilled coffee all over the floor. What type of dog crate is best to buy for disaster evacuations?
Q. Ever since I heard about all the dogs left behind during Katrina and the ones that were not allowed into shelters because their owners didn't have proper crates for them, i have been so worried the same would happen to my dogs. Although I think I'd rather die in a disaster than leave my dogs behind, I want to be prepared in case this happens. Are there certain crates that are acceptable for evacuations on public transit and entrance into shelters? There are so many different types and I just don't know if certain ones would not be permissable for this purpose. Can anyone help?

A. Buy a folding crate it can be stored folded down and carried like a suitcase, then very easily assembled. They are best because the dog has full view out of the metal bars to see it's surroundings. Dogs in plastic vari kennels don't have a very good view out and can become more agitated in them. Four Paws makes a nice one called a Dlx Folding Crate and comes in lengths of 19,24,30,36,42 and 48" long

A. An aluminothermic reaction between a powdered aluminum and a metal oxide. This is commonly referred to as themite. Add sulfur and you have thermate - temperatures can reach above 4000 degrees F. Good luck!

How to make a change in a balance sheet due to natural disaster?
Q. This is for accounting homework.. The farm has barns and sheds worth $19,100 A tornado struck and completely destroyed one of the barns, worth $45,00. It was not insured against this type of disaster. Explain what changes will be required in your balance sheet to reflect the loss of this barn.
Asked by Pretty_Bunny - Fri Jun 26 11:32:39 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your transaction entry should consist of three items: 1. Credit assets for the original cost of the barn. 2. Debit accumulated depreciation for the amount associated with the barn. 3. Debit Extraordinary Expenses with the balance. By the way, it doesn't matter if this occurs within the "normal" tornado belt or someplace where a tornado occurs once in a century. The loss of property, even in the tornado belt, is a rare occurrence. Hope this helps Jerry-the-bookkeeper

What percentage of total losses does disaster insurance pay?
Q. Problem: A $250,000.00 House & Land, 2 cars at $85,000.00 combined, a $40,000.00 boat, a $25,000.00 camping trailer, a $15,000.00 motorcycle, $25,000.00 in furniture, and an additional $60,000.00 in various goods and products , for a total of : $500,000.00 in total listed losses from a tornado/hurricane wiping out my real estate property. What percentage of the property is covered by disaster insurance, generally?

A. The cars and motorcycle should be covered under their own policies. Depending on the type of boat and trailer, same with them. (If it is a small boat, under $40k, it might have coverage). What will be covered for your house depends on your policy. If the replacement cost of your house is $250k, and you have $250k of coverage, it will be replaced completely, less your deductible. Most home policies have coverage for personal property (not counting vehicles and large boats) of 50% of the value of your home. In this case, up to $125k. This seems to be enough to cover your personal stuff. You need to try to remember what company insured your house and vehicles, and give them a call. Hopefully you were insured up to the value of your house.… [cont.]

Where do I go to work for disaster relief?
Q. I'm a nurse but rather than volunteering, I'd like to work for an organization that would send me around the world wherever there is a need for assistance in the event of a disaster. Does anyone know of such an organization?
