I remember that I was a new teacher at the time and one of the teacher magazines I subscribed to, featured Christa McCaulliffe's (sp?) lesson plans she was planning to use from space. (I still have that issue of the magazine!). It was especially horrifying since we were expecting to watch a routine blast-off and then go run routine errands. Instead, we sat, glued to the tv waiting for any bit of news... hoping that maybe they'd parachuted out safely.
