Developing country is a term generally used to describe a nation with a low level of material well being. There is no single internationally-recognized definition of developed country, and the levels of development may vary widely within so-called developing countries, with some developing countries having high average standards of living.

Some international organizations like the World Bank use strictly numerical classifications. The World Bank considers all low- and middle- income countries as "developing". In its most recent classification, economies are divided using 2008 Gross National Income per capita. In 2008, countries with GNI per capita below US$11,905 were considered developing. Other institutions use less specific definitions.

Countries with more advanced economies than other developing nations, but which have not yet fully demonstrated the signs of a developed country, are grouped under the term newly industrialized countries.

What are some economic alternatives to the gareem bank model in developing countries?
Q. I need to write a research paper and all I can think of off the top of my head is sweatshops. I would like a another example of how people in developing countries can attain a higher than average wage. (other than micro financing and sweatshop labor) Thanks.

A. The methods you mentioned - sweatshops and microfinance - tend to increase productive technology, and thus increase real wage. Any method that increases productive technology would thus increase the real wage. The only other thing I can think of is government investment in job training. The problem with this is that the job training has to be relevant for a developing world economy (i.e. you probably won't have many furnace installers in sub-saharan Africa!). Another problem with this approach is that developing world governments tend to be rather corrupt, and so programs that are designed to aid development rarely succeed.

Climate Change Agreements, should developing countries be excluded from the agreement?
Q. I've been reading recently about Climate Change Agreements, and I was really surprised with the fact that developing countries do not have full rights in Kyoto Protocol. Why do you think it is like that? Should developing countries participate in Kyoto Protocol or should it be excluded? Don't you think that participation of developing countries in climate- change agreement will have a negative effect on their economy?

A. Kyoto excludes India & China & other so called developing countrys, they can put out as much pollution as they want. kyoto only puts the western countrys back in the stone age so the developing countrys can get ahead of us with no competition.

Buy clothes that support developing countries?
Q. I know that there are programs where people in developing countries make products and clothes that are sold and they benefit from the sales. Like a fair trade type of thing. Do you know of any places online where I could find clothes that have been made for this purpose?
